Sierra Leone: Juba Bridge in Freetown
During the second half of 2018, Matière® was commissioned for the construction of the Juba bridge in Sierra Leone. Like most of the structures we export, this bridge is a tri-beam Unibridge® 11m wide and 91.20m long. It was built on 2 spans of 45.60m each and box giders of 2.15m high.
The construction of this 351-tonne metal bridge was completed in several stages. Indeed, after their assembly in our factories of Creusot and Bagnac-sur-Célé, the first span was laid in August, the second in November, then the deck was cast in place.
The project was set up in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, in partnership with a local company. Our partners had also visited our facilities in France and greatly appreciated the expertise of our teams. It is therefore natural that a partnership has been created.
Thanks to the Juba Bridge, a major work in the region and built in record time, the Sierra Leonean company is now cited by other political authorities as an example.
This project is therefore a reference for Matière® and could create new opportunities in Sierra Leone and other West African countries.
